A Very Fine Cat, Indeed
Early Beltane morning, when they were very thin, Miss Thing, my good grey cat, slipped between the veils. Just before she went, she climbed onto my bed, shoved me over, stretched one front leg out in her typical elegant pose, and we had a lovely snuggle. I pet her, she purred, life was good. Her purr was always amazing; I never once ceased to be amazed by the active grace of so much pleasure.
She was a very private cat, not too fond of strangers, but in the final years of her life, she opened her heart to the noisy, little, blonde boy who came careening into the place, tolerating him with supreme gentleness as he was learning to let her smell his hand before he began to pet her and gleefully announcing, "She's my buddy!"
Good bye, for now, dear friend.
You gave Miss Thing a wonderful life and comfort all of her days. What a fantastic gift. May your sorrow end soon and joyous memories of her life fill the void.

Oh my, no. My chest is so very heavy right now. May she enjoy romping with Sam in The Great Meadow. Peace be with you. We'll give you real hugs in a few days.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to hear that Miss Thing is no longer with you. She is in the Summerlands now.
ReplyDeleteMay your grief slowly ebb as new life pushes forward this spring.
Very sorry to hear, Hecate. Peace.

oh dear. Hecate I am so sorry to hear of this. My sympathies to you, and most especially to g/son who must learn of death so soon. Perhaps when time has passed and healing has come, he can help you pick out a new friend, who while living with you will grow up with him.
ReplyDeleteexcuse me, the screen has got all blurry and I cannot see well. Blessed be.
I know how difficult this is... I am sorry for your loss. Blessings for you both.

Pablo Neruda:
ReplyDeleteBut the cat
wants nothing more than to be a cat,
and every cat is pure cat
from its whiskers to its tail,
from sixth sense to squirming rat,
from nighttime to its golden eyes.
Nothing hangs together
quite like a cat:
neither flowers nor the moon
have
such consistency.
It's a thing by itself,
like the sun or a topaz,
and the elastic curve of its back,
which is both subtle and confident,
is like the curve of a sailing ship's prow.
The cat's yellow eyes
are the only
slot
for depositing the coins of night.
Blessed be, Miss Thing.
Love to Hecate

ReplyDeleteMy condolences. She exited in a sweet and graceful manner, with a Loved One to see her off. As far as Final Scenes go, can't do much better.

May the goddess protect her. May she find endless warm sunbeams in the Summerlands. May her beloved family know peace.
ReplyDeleteHecate,
ReplyDeleteMy heart is with you.

Such a graceful eparture. And a graceful farewell. Thinking of you as you mourn your companion.

What a great furry lady she was and is in another form now. I guess it's fitting that she left this world just as the seasons were turning but I'm sure that doesn't make you miss her any less. Take comfort, my friend, in knowing that you will meet her again.
ReplyDeletePeace.
ReplyDeleteI was floored when I heard last night. May she rest in peace. I hope she meets up with my Peaches, Piewacket and Muffy as well as Bonzo and Duffy.
ReplyDeleteMy condolences, Hecate; and what a gracious and loving parting commentary on Miss Thing's passing.
ReplyDeleteBe Well and at Peace.

{{{Hecate}}} I'm very sad to hear this news. I hope you find comfort in her graceful passing. Surely no good grey cat had a better life on this side of the veils. Peace and love to you and yours as you mourn the loss of a dear friend.
ReplyDeleteOh Hecate,my heart aches for you. What a lovely tribute to your glorious Miss Thing. May she romp joyfully in the Summerlands, and peace to you, dear Goddess.

Hecate, what a beautiful tribute. And what beautiful comments by all of us who love you.
ReplyDeleteI hope the noisy, little blonde boy will be around to give you lots of big hugs in the days to come. I think that and the beauty of your garden will be the biggest comforts of all.
Let me join in with the others to say "oh my!!" My heart is with you now.
ReplyDelete{{Hecate}} I'll miss her graciously allowing me to pet her to comfort myself on the loss of my own Avon kitty. I did ask him to look after her on Friday night. I'm sure she'll be there to greet you when you make your own journey with her wonderful kitty grin.

ReplyDeleteI am so very, very sorry. Like ntodd said, my chest feels heavy. Cats are wonderful friends and spirits. I always enjoyed reading about Miss Thing and seeing her lovely photos.--Level Best
ReplyDeleteHecate,
ReplyDeleteI never once ceased to be amazed by the active grace of so much pleasure. This pretty much sums up my impression of the wondrous mutual regard you had for Miss Thing and she for you. I imagine you and G/son in your garden, he's running slightly ahead of you, giggling as he enjoys the vibrant life you have lovingly planted and she will be smiling that regal, uber content and knowing smile upon you both.

About halfway through, you see a familiar face.
Peace be with you.

{{{{ Hecate }}}} I am so sorry!
ReplyDeleteHecate, I am so VERY sorry to read this. Miss Thing will be much missed. When we meet Sarah for drinks tomorrow night, you can tell us all about what happened and we'll raise a glass to her. I traditionally say "may her memory be a blessing" in situations like this, but I don't even have to wish that for you - I know it to be true.
ReplyDeleteOH NO not Ms Thing!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat was one gorgeous cat.
What Terraluna said.
Thank you for sharing your love and your loss, Hecate.
ReplyDeleteMay Miss Thing be safe, may she be well, may she be happy, may she have ease of awareness on all her journeys.
A lovely quiet crossing -- and we all know that she will always be present in some magical way at home .... and in other paths through the Veil. So sorry about your loss ....
ReplyDeleteJan at Rosemary Cottage where four small cat souls graciously let me serve them .....
I'm so sorry for your loss. What a fine time to cross over, though. She's the third cat I've heard passed over on Beltane this year. I think they feel the thinness of the veil when their time is close.
ReplyDeleteMay your memories ease your grief!
Whoa. I'm late to this one. I feel like I knew her from all the wonderful pictures and blogging you did about her! May she romp with the faeries while she waits for you...
ReplyDeleteVery sorry to hear about your cat. Pets are friends like no other.
