A Very Fine Cat, Indeed

Early Beltane morning, when they were very thin, Miss Thing, my good grey cat, slipped between the veils. Just before she went, she climbed onto my bed, shoved me over, stretched one front leg out in her typical elegant pose, and we had a lovely snuggle. I pet her, she purred, life was good. Her purr was always amazing; I never once ceased to be amazed by the active grace of so much pleasure.

She was a very private cat, not too fond of strangers, but in the final years of her life, she opened her heart to the noisy, little, blonde boy who came careening into the place, tolerating him with supreme gentleness as he was learning to let her smell his hand before he began to pet her and gleefully announcing, "She's my buddy!"

Good bye, for now, dear friend.

You gave Miss Thing a wonderful life and comfort all of her days. What a fantastic gift. May your sorrow end soon and joyous memories of her life fill the void.

  8. oh dear. Hecate I am so sorry to hear of this. My sympathies to you, and most especially to g/son who must learn of death so soon. Perhaps when time has passed and healing has come, he can help you pick out a new friend, who while living with you will grow up with him.

excuse me, the screen has got all blurry and I cannot see well. Blessed be.

    But the cat
wants nothing more than to be a cat,
and every cat is pure cat
from its whiskers to its tail,
from sixth sense to squirming rat,
from nighttime to its golden eyes.
    Nothing hangs together
    quite like a cat:
    neither flowers nor the moon
    have
    such consistency.
    It's a thing by itself,
like the sun or a topaz,
and the elastic curve of its back,
which is both subtle and confident,
is like the curve of a sailing ship's prow.
    The cat's yellow eyes
    are the only
    slot
for depositing the coins of night.
    Blessed be, Miss Thing.

    Love to Hecate

{{Hecate}} I'll miss her graciously allowing me to pet her to comfort myself on the loss of my own Avon kitty. I did ask him to look after her on Friday night. I'm sure she'll be there to greet you when you make your own journey with her wonderful kitty grin.

    Hecate,

I never once ceased to be amazed by the active grace of so much pleasure. This pretty much sums up my impression of the wondrous mutual regard you had for Miss Thing and she for you. I imagine you and G/son in your garden, he's running slightly ahead of you, giggling as he enjoys the vibrant life you have lovingly planted and she will be smiling that regal, uber content and knowing smile upon you both.

Hecate, I am so VERY sorry to read this. Miss Thing will be much missed. When we meet Sarah for drinks tomorrow night, you can tell us all about what happened and we'll raise a glass to her. I traditionally say "may her memory be a blessing" in situations like this, but I don't even have to wish that for you - I know it to be true.

  46. I'm so sorry for your loss. What a fine time to cross over, though. She's the third cat I've heard passed over on Beltane this year. I think they feel the thinness of the veil when their time is close.

May your memories ease your grief!
