Spring Cleaning The Ritual Room

One of the things that attracted me to Witchcraft was the notion that this was a practical religion, based upon experience. Witches were the people who did what needed doing: grew herbs to heal the sick, helped women give birth, assisted Mother Earth in the Turning of the Wheel.

But you know, oh my Sisters and oh my Brothers, I am beginning to lose faith in us. Because it occurred to me today that, while there are spells to attract partners, spells to bring prosperity, spells to summon otherworldly beings and ask them to assist us, and spells to unjam paper printers, there do not appear to be, in spite of centuries and centuries of practice, not in any ancient Grimoire, nor in any arcane Book of Shadows, nor in any secret oral tradition, any spells for getting rid of candle wax.

And, you know, if we were truly a practical, real-world, experience-based religion, I figure that, as much as we use candles, some bright Witch, somewhere along the line, would have come up with a spell to make candle wax simply disappear.

I am just saying.

I dunno how spell worthy it is, but I save the little bits of wax and them melt them all to make a new candle. Doesn't work so well with scented ones (too many smells mix to be very repugnant evil bad), but I tend to try and stay away from scented ones anyway and use my own oils to anoint in the smell...but then again I tend to make all my spell candles.

I do the same thing. Usually really cold water or ice cubes rubbed on them will help it break off in large chunks. I typically make small spell candles out of the wax where the scent doesnt matter and I can just annoint the candle with whatever oil I may need at the time :)

I could kiss you! I had some melted wax on my wood floor and I could never figure out how to get it off. For some reason, when I read your post I had this idea just come floating in. I ran and got waxed paper, layed it over the melted wax and ironed it and rubbed the wax right up! Ideas are so strange!

Perhaps there is a spell to make one more careful when carrying burning candles? :)

You had me going there for a minute! However, anyone that has an entire room for rituals gets no sympathy from me. ;)

Double Jointed Fingers,

When I moved to this cottage, it had 3 bedrooms, albeit small ones. I sleep in one. One is a guest room. And the other is the ritual room. It is a luxury and one that I'm grateful for. Reminds me of every woman's need to have "a room of her own"!

Hecate, you are indeed a lucky woman. And, as for your comment regarding a "room of her own", in honor of Women's History Month, a couple of days ago I changed my profile picture to Virginia Woolf!

I use heavy brown paper to iron up wax. Not waxed paper as that can coat your iron. I just keep moving the paper until no more wax soaks into the paper... I use this on everything from clothing to furniture to carpet.

Ice too to get rid of the big chunks, then the brown paper.

Would it not be easier to just learn to like the drippings? If you can't beat em....
