I've been an Al Gore fan for years (though Tipper doesn't do it for me). Loved the beard. Wish he had kept it. Fucking bigoted 'Merkins.
Sometimes I contemplate the situation in terms of the longer view of history. I think we are not only doomed, but have been doomed since Reagan. It just took us a while to notice. Sort of like the Romans. Welcome to Byzantium.
It seems to me that when the GoOPers stole 2000 and 2004, pretty much without significant comment from the media or the average 'Merkin, it was proof positive that the data from the Great Experiment were in. We lose. Average people cannot, or will not, govern themselves.
Remember. We get the government we deserve on average. Though I personally can't recall ass-raping that many nuns.
AL: talk yo your own party leaders. The dems have GIVEN UP near as I can tell. Oh, and we all know how Al will be excoriated and demonized in the media (all flavors). We could all write the script. Please kids! It's up to you to make a big stink. Those of us in our 50s with young kids and old parents can't do it anymore: FIGHT.
Yeah, I get the same thing about that line from The Sopranos, it plays in my head a lot. I think it's been going on ever since Gore's first speech on Iraq before the invasion.
Anyway, they have the speech up at C-Span and I heartily recommend watching it for anyone who hasn't done so. The text is certainly good, but seeing him do it always adds a dimension.
Yeah, he's still my President, dammit. I wish the Dem leadership would get it. They don't have anyone better.
"Why didn't Gore over-rule her?" Well, he should have, but now we have the ensuing six years to support doing what would have seemed, back then, to be advocating a coup d'etat. There *was* a coup d'etat, but it wasn't Gore's. He believed in the rule of law. They don't. He was thinking of what was best for the country, although now we see he was mistaken, as were all of us who accepted the outcome. The advantage will always go - initially - to the guys unhindered by morality.
Well, we know now. We've known for quite a while. But I still don't know what to do. I mean, like what to do tomorrow. I'll direct people to the text of Gore's speech, and I'll continue to be a loudmouth, but it isn't enough. I don't know what to do.
I'm a woman, a Witch, a mother, a grandmother, an eco-feminist, a gardener, a reader, a writer, and a priestess of the Great Mother Earth. Hecate appears in the
Homeric Ode to Demeter, which tells of Hades who caught Persophone
"up reluctant on his golden car and bare her away lamenting. . . . But no one, either of the deathless gods or of mortal men, heard her voice, nor yet the olive-trees bearing rich fruit: only tenderhearted Hecate, bright-coiffed, the daughter of Persaeus, heard the girl from her cave . . . ."

Bet you weren't the only weeping, Hecate.
Man, I love you, Hecate.
That was a brilliant speech. All I can say at the moment is that I empathize with how you're feeling!
And I'm so happy for you that you were able to experience this historic moment!
Great post, Hecate. And tying it in with that episode -- the greatest episode EVER -- of "The Sopranos" is spot on.
You were so lucky to have been there.
Great post, Hecate.
If only, if only in 2000.
If only...
*sigh*
Al Gore delivers the unvarnished truth, and damn the consequences. Now that is a real man.

Hecate, it's a great speech, and it makes me want to cry too. I wish I could have been there.
I feel the same as you about Brazile, but why didn't Al Gore overrule her? I have never been able to figure that out.

Great blog I hope we can work to build a better health care system as we are in a major crisis and health insurance is a major aspect to many.
Thank you, Hecate, for posting Al's speech on your blog. Not it will be availiable to lots of people who otherwise wouldn't have a chance to read it.
