Hecate, there were a couple of interesting segments on WNYC yesterday about how to save the environment.

On the Leonard Lopate Show, Edwin Black passionately argued for the demise of the current auto technology, saying until great numbers, starting with the huge fleets of trucks and autos, stop using gasoline, we can effect no improvement in the climate situation. (Last segment of the day)

Earlier, on the Brian Lehrer Show, a partnering of science and economics was discussed as a pragmatic and doable means of saving Planet Earth.

Will Science Save Creation?
Edward O. Wilson, scientist and Pulitzer Prize-winning author, The Creation: An Appeal to Save Life on Earth (W. W. Norton, 2006)
and
Jeffrey Sachs, director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University
- preview their seminar: "Sustainable Development—Can it Save the Creation?"

Jeffry Sachs is credited with bringing a market economy to the East European countries and Russia after the breakup of the Soviet Union--not such a great record, imho, but now he is big on trying to save the planet. I don't know his partner in this, and caught only snippets as I was out and about. I need to listen to the entirety, but would also enjoy your take since you follow this topic so closely.
