I think what we saw there was a classic Freudian slip -- one of the Bushies actually saying what she meant, what she really believed.
I think they all believe that they swore to uphold the president. Did you notice how even after Leahy corrected her, she still said that it was very important for her to show respect for the President -- not for the Constitution. He had to emphasize it again, and I still don't think she got it.
Where do these people come from? Didn't any of them ever take civics in school?
I'm a woman, a Witch, a mother, a grandmother, an eco-feminist, a gardener, a reader, a writer, and a priestess of the Great Mother Earth. Hecate appears in the
Homeric Ode to Demeter, which tells of Hades who caught Persophone
"up reluctant on his golden car and bare her away lamenting. . . . But no one, either of the deathless gods or of mortal men, heard her voice, nor yet the olive-trees bearing rich fruit: only tenderhearted Hecate, bright-coiffed, the daughter of Persaeus, heard the girl from her cave . . . ."
