From Faithful America:
"Last week The House of Representatives took a look at their salaries and decided to give themselves a raise for the seventh time in eight years -
a $3,000 increase, bringing their base salary to $168,500.00 Yet in that same eight years Congress has REFUSED to raise the federal minimum wage. It stands at $5.15 per hour. Those working full time year round earn only $10,700 a year - $5,000 below the official poverty line for a family of three!
Just moments ago Senator Edward Kennedy (D-MA) introduced an ammendment calling for an increase in the national minimum wage from $5.15 to $7.25 per hour. A vote could come as early as Wednesday. On behalf of every American who struggles to feed their families and lift themselves out of poverty, we ask for your immediate help by emailing your Senators and urge them to:
Support Senator Kennedy's minimum wage amendment and
Oppose any alternative minimum wage proposal that would help fewer workers and hurt many hardworking people who need overtime pay."

This from the exact same group of people (House of who at the beginning of June voted to KILL the ONLY program that provides professional development funds under NCLB - you know, that same education law that requires "highly qualified" teachers. Whose districts now can't afford to get them professional development.
