The Dark Moon is tomorrow and Mercury goes retrograde on Friday. You might want to conclude your important business/travel plans/financial contracts, oh, say, tomorrow morning.

I don't follow this very closely, but it seems like Mercury is always in retrograde. How often does this happen?

Generally about three times a year. Often enough to keep things interesting!
I always do very well when Mercury is in retrograde.
Could there be any reason for this, besides me being bull-headed and stubborn?

Could be your chart; have you ever had it done?
Hecate, not for decades, and this was done possibly by those who were not very good at this.

Ivo Dominguez, linked on my blogroll, is the best I've found. You may also be v. careful about things like travel arrangements, etc., which tends to work well during Mercury Retrogrades. Or you may be able to make opportunities where others see only confusion. Also a good trait during Mercury retrogrades.
