The persecution of children and others labeled as "witches" continues. At Yule, as we turn towards the light, it would be wonderful for Pagans all over the world to work magic to protect these children.
I don't mean to be pessimistic here and I know its a long shot but these sorts of requests usually spread like wildfire. Which is good because raises our awareness but what happens if it gets back to people in Africa that "other" witches and sorcerers are doing magic to protect those accused of witchcraft? Would it not be interpreted as us protecting our own? :S
Personally I will light a candle and say a prayer for the well-being and safety of the children I just don't wish to add to the hysteria by projecting my own feelings as a Western based Witch onto the situation. x
Sorry for giving this such a "negative" spin but the problem lies in the hysteria and fear of people in Africa where hexcraft and black magick have been real for centuries.
Everyone should do what feels best. I don't think our sitting silent and not using the tools we have will help the situation, but, again, you shouldn't do anything that you don't believe in.
I'm a woman, a Witch, a mother, a grandmother, an eco-feminist, a gardener, a reader, a writer, and a priestess of the Great Mother Earth. Hecate appears in the
Homeric Ode to Demeter, which tells of Hades who caught Persophone
"up reluctant on his golden car and bare her away lamenting. . . . But no one, either of the deathless gods or of mortal men, heard her voice, nor yet the olive-trees bearing rich fruit: only tenderhearted Hecate, bright-coiffed, the daughter of Persaeus, heard the girl from her cave . . . ."

Consider it done, on my part at least...
Oh, yes. This is awful!

Wouldn't it be wonderful if Western Christians prayed for these children? I'm not going to hold my breath on that one.
Anne,
No, don't hold your breath! I don't want you to turn blue!
Yes, I believe something needs to be done, magickal, and perhaps political as well. Lots of Love. Blessed Be!
