i wasn't alive when this happened, but I remember growing up hearing the adults talking about it, and stressing why they didn't go to certain states, as a child even then the thought that adults would make war on the innocents, was truly horrifying.
even in these modern days and times there are still parts of virginia, maryland, alabama, and georgia you don't want to drive as a black family, and yes I have lived in Virginia so I personally know that to be true.

I'm a woman, a Witch, a mother, a grandmother, an eco-feminist, a gardener, a reader, a writer, and a priestess of the Great Mother Earth. Hecate appears in the
Homeric Ode to Demeter, which tells of Hades who caught Persophone
"up reluctant on his golden car and bare her away lamenting. . . . But no one, either of the deathless gods or of mortal men, heard her voice, nor yet the olive-trees bearing rich fruit: only tenderhearted Hecate, bright-coiffed, the daughter of Persaeus, heard the girl from her cave . . . ."

It's both true and sad. In some ways, we've come so far. In others, we still have so far to go.
Totally off topic, but I just love your gravatar. What a perfect picture.
