2006

2006 was quite a year. It will always, for me, be the year when:

I turned 50;

Grandson was born: hale, healthy, redheaded, and blue-eyed -- I am with my mother's mother's mother and my son's son's sons.

My circle decided to add new members in a serious, deliberate manner;

I had a wonderful crop of violets for Beltane;

My circle took Pagan Pride week by storm;

I won two big cases in the Ninth Circuit and Jeff Skilling went to jail;

All year long, I didn't get to the mountains. I mean to fix this in 2007;

The oak trees masted;

I began blogging for real;

I saw Son develop into THE most amazing father, ever;

A baby dove got caught in my rosebush and then got free and lived;

I read Derrick Jensen;

A one-sentence essay: "I am Macca," won a UVA student a seat in Larry Sabato's grad student course;

E, D, and I had the "mad hat" tea at the Mayflower;

My black iris flowered;

America stepped back from the abyss;

I pulled Baba Yaga from the Goddess Oracle to guide me through the coming year. This will be interesting;

I carried the amazing Michael Kors bag that, all summer long, got so many compliments;

I didn't buy even one single Hermes scarf, although I have my eye on the one that shows the roofs of Paris;

Son, D-i-L, and Grandson came to my circle's Yule party.

My woad flowered but my dill was abysmal and my black hollyhocks had rust.

We had a bad drought in July and August and I tried desperately (we'll find out this Spring) to keep all the arisemea that I planted in the Spring alive.

D-i-L looked me straight in the eye following Grandson's birth and said, "I had exactly the birth that I kept envisioning. I kept saying affirmations and, you know, those things really work."

I am blessed. May it be so for you.

Oh Hecate dear. I can't find my cards at the moment but someday I hope to make that request of you for a reading. I read your prayer to Goddess to my daughter and mailed it to my best friend. I would so love a diety or Spirit whom I could lovingly address as "Yo, beeoch!" and let her know all my twisted troubles.

This year had some good moments. I'm optimistic.

SSoP, nuncamas 21.

Dear ivymoon,

Nice reading. You'll be happy in your family and friends in 2007, but you'll need to wait a bit and overcome a bit of indecision in order to achieve that. You know what you want; quit pretending that you're hamstrung!

Hecate said...

flory,

Stay home this year. Quit focusing on "what's out there," and focus, instead, on what's "already here." Stay with what the band Emerald Isle calls "your own ones." You've worked so hard out there in the cold world. Now look at your own hearth.

stevens,

This is about being patient and allowing nature to take her course; about allowing the interest to accrue before you make a withdrawal. Don't rush your fences, restrain the inner child that wants to rush ahead. Sit awhile and think about things. Don't jump at the first goblet that appears to levitate.

All will be well, and all will be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

anon,

Be kind and you'll find yourself in the marriage of true minds this year, staring into the eyes of your soulmate. The gods visit us in the form of ugly old women and odd beggars. Be kind, because you won't know this year to whom you may be speaking. There's a journey involved in getting from here to there. Don't forget to bring a coin for the boatman, but don't ever doubt that you're going to get to a wonderful place this year.

xan,

A year of big changes coming up for you. You'll want to rush forward, but remember to make offerings to the gods, to feed the poor, to welcome the stranger to your door. As noted above, the gods often visit us in strange forms. Practice charity and the gods will make this a year of wonderful change for you. Channel all of that enthusiasm and use it without allowing it to be scattered. Merry meet.

donna marie,

What a lovely spread. Be patient. All good things come to s/he who waits. Forgive yourself.

At the time, you did the best that you knew. When you knew better, you did better.

What more can the gods ask of you? Why do you ask so much more of yourself?

Write down all of the things with which you accuse yourself. Soak a stick of cinnamon in water and sprinkle the water over the list. Allow it to dry in the sun. Burn the list, explaining to your better self what it is that you seek to achieve in this world. Bury the ashes.

Call for what you want. So mote it be.

angela-eloise,

This year is going to be all about whether or not you can work with other people. I see the 3 of Earth as being about cooperating in order to get an important task done and about learning from those who are very good at what they do. The 5 of Air is about people refusing to work together, not using the tools that they have, breaking up over foolish greed. Remember, that you can only weild one sword at a time. If you can deal with the difficult people, you'll definitely achieve your goal. Don't forget to look for expertise and assistance in unusual places!

mattsmom,

Wow. Two major arcana cards, so this year is likely to be an important one for you.

The six of Earth tells you to give to others, but to do so judiciously. Don't throw pearls before swine and don't give more than you can afford to. The High Priestess is here to remind you to connect with your own inner knowledge and to seek out ways to move between your various "worlds" (work, home, etc.) She may want you to take up some form of study, go back to school, or to practice some form of physical discipline. The Justice card, in conjunction with the 6 of Earth, is very interesting here. It reinforces in a major way the notion of balance, of being fair to yourself as well as to others, and of making sure that you don't allow others to take advantage of you.

Thanks Hecate! Very good advice since I'm in the process of interviewing for a new job.

Happy 2007!

Queen of Clubs
4 of Swords
7 of Cups

Dear Anon,

The Queen of Clubs I read as the Queen of Fire or Wands. She's an actual person; either you or someone that you know. It's fair to say that she has a very strong will and a fiery temprement. She's a wonderful ally and a fearsome enemy. It's best to have her on your side or to avoid her altogether.

The 4 of swords tells you to "give it a rest." Things just need to germinate and you're only exhausting yourself trying to make them happen RIGHT NOW (as the Queen of Fire would be likely to do)! Move on to something else for now; if things are meant to be, they'll be in their own time.

The 7 of cups reinforces this message. You need some time to go off and dream a new dream, figure out what it is that you really want AND that's achievable. You must distinguish what's realistic from what's "pie in the sky."

Hecate,

I think I'm out of the magic 10, but just in case:

(from the site mentioned by Xan, Seventh Sanctum):

6 of Chains
the Holy Pyramid
the Helm

(weird -- the word verification below was: fqate - "fate")

Hecate said...

Sandy,

I'll gladly read for you, but can you give me a link that shows those cards? When I go to Seventh Sanctum, I can't find them.

Sandy-LA 90034 said...

Hecate,

I'm not sure where those cards came from either. They were not accompanied by a picture or name of the deck.

I decided to go to my regular Tarot Deck (Universal Waite), which I had to search for to unearth.

Here are the three cards I drew:

10 of Pentacles
6 of Cups
The Lovers

Thanks!

The Lovers

What a happy spread! You'll be happiest this year spending time with your family. The oldest members have something to give to you and you have something to give to the younger members.

The six of cups warns you, however, not to get too wrapped up in nostalgia for the days of your own childhood; you have to live in today's world, not the world that you fondly remember! Nor can today's children live in the world that you remember; they have to live in today's world. But you can relate to them if you'll ignore your desire to live in the past!

The Lovers is a major arcana card, meaning: Pay Attention! This is important! You'll have an important choice to make this year. Listen to young people and then make the most modern choice that you can make. Mozel tov!

Thank you for your reading of Queen of Wands,
4 of swords, 7 of cups.

It is probably very accurate, though surprizing.
I have been wanting more fire in my nature. I have been feeling that I am too lazy and must push myself,my friends and my enemies to settle a situation.

Which is how things would look to someone who needs to give it a rest and re-think.

I
