In a contracting economy, it becomes easier to notice that the less you need, the less vulnerable you are to the ups and downs of fortune, and the more you can get done of whatever it is that you happen to want to do. That’s an uncongenial lesson at the best of times, and during times of material abundance you won’t find many people learning it. Still, in the world after abundance, it’s hard to think of a lesson that deserves more careful attention.

"the less vulnerable you are to the ups and downs of fortune" wisely said. I guess that is why the fluctuations of the economy haven't affect me that much. I see the changes happening and notice the prices going up like the rest of the country, but my lifestyle hasn't changed much; I've never been a huge spender. I grew up with very little, so I try to remember that every time I get something. This doesn't mean that I limit myself, but I don't get to upset if I have to go without certain things.

Glad that you liked it; JMG is brilliant. I, too, grew up without a lot. "We can't afford it" was a perfectly common thing for my parents to say when one of us kids wanted something. I think we're all going to have to start saying that more often.
